What is Airsoft?
Airsoft is a dynamic and tactical outdoor sport suitable for everyone. Learn about the sport, rules, safety requirements and how you can get started.
Airsoft — a Sport Based on Honour
Airsoft is a team sport where participants use realistic replica weapons to fire small 6mm plastic BBs. Unlike paintball, airsoft hits do not leave a visible mark on the target. This is why the sport is built on honour — every player must honestly acknowledge their own hits. This principle makes airsoft a unique community sport where fair play and integrity are the highest values.
Airsoft has been growing in popularity worldwide and in Estonia for many years. Today it is one of the most dynamic outdoor sports in Estonia, with events happening regularly in various locations across the country — including in Tallinn and Loksa, which are the primary locations of Rakvere Airsoft.
Who Can Participate?
Airsoft is suitable for a wide range of people. The recommended minimum age is 13 years, but younger children may also participate in the game with parental consent and adult supervision. There is no upper age limit — airsoft is played by both young people and adults, men and women alike.
No prior experience is required. At public events, the game leader explains all the rules and safety requirements before the game starts. Rental equipment is available on-site so participants do not need to bring their own replica.
How Does a Game Work?
An airsoft game begins with a briefing where the game leader explains the rules, safety requirements and game scenario. Then participants are divided into teams and the game begins. Common game formats include team play (two teams compete against each other), capture the flag (teams must capture the opponent's flag) and deathmatch (individual competition).
During the game, each player monitors their own hits. When hit, the player raises their hand and calls out "hit!" or a similar agreed signal, then exits the game temporarily or follows other rules of the scenario. This honest acknowledgement of hits is the cornerstone of airsoft culture.
Safety in Airsoft
Safety is the highest priority in airsoft. The most important rule is that protective goggles and a face mask must be worn during the entire game — without exception. Replicas are only used within the designated game area. Pointing a replica at another person outside the game area is strictly prohibited.
The energy (muzzle energy) of replicas is limited according to Estonian airsoft practice. This ensures that hits are safe and do not cause injury. Our game leaders verify that all equipment meets the requirements before the start of each event.
Airsoft Equipment
The main equipment used in airsoft are replicas — realistic-looking models of firearms that fire 6mm plastic BBs. Common types include AEG (Automatic Electric Gun), gas-powered replicas and spring-powered replicas. For beginners, renting a replica is the most sensible option — this way you can try the sport without a large investment.
In addition to the replica, the basic equipment includes: protective goggles (must be ANSI Z87.1 rated or equivalent), a face mask, comfortable outdoor clothing and suitable footwear. All of this rental equipment is available at our events.
Airsoft Community in Estonia
The Estonian airsoft community is active and welcoming. Regular events take place across Estonia — from Tallinn and Loksa to Tartu and beyond. The community is connected through events, social media and the Airsoftwiki.ee information portal, where you can find rules, tactics and other useful information about airsoft.
You can also find videos about airsoft events and community life on the Airsoft Town YouTube channel and the N.A.C. Facebook page. Those interested in buying or selling airsoft equipment can visit the Airsoft market.
How to Get Started with Airsoft?
The easiest way to try airsoft is to participate in a public event. These events are open to everyone and no prior experience is required. All necessary equipment is available to rent on-site. Check the upcoming events on the Rakvere Airsoft home page and register for the one that suits you.
If you want to organise a private event — birthday, corporate event or bachelor party — you can book it directly at harkuairsoft.ee or fill in the inquiry form on our page. We are happy to help you plan an event that suits your group and wishes.
